Football Poetry at the Everton Collection

By using football and objects from the Everton Collection our poetry resources and workshops inspire children to write and perform their own poems.  We are working in partnership with performance poet Paul Cookson, to develop and deliver our poetry resources for schools.

Paul Cookson

Paul Cookson has been performing and leading poetry workshops in schools for over 20 years.  He is the author of a number of successful collections of poetry for children and has been Poet in Residence at the National Football Museum since 2004. Paul's Poems

Paul has also written a selection of poems inspired by some of the best objects in the Everton Collection.  For example, the idea for the poem below came from the match day programmes that Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs shared for 30 years. 

THIRTY YEARS OF SHARING

A city united by football
A city united by passion
A city united by sport
A city united obsession

The blue and the red - side by side
Both singing from the same page
The blue and the red - both together
Sharing this platform and this stage

Three score years united
The fans devour each word
Everyone read the blue and red
In the match day programme shared
