William Ralph Dean, known as Dixie Dean, 1907-80
Dixie Dean is undeniably the greatest Everton player of all time. He was an unrivalled goalscorer and a genuine sportsman.
On 1 March it is the 30th anniversary of his death, which occurred at Goodison in 1980 minutes after he had watched a Merseyside Derby. Obviously it is an event tinged with sadness.
Dean captained Everton to victories in the Second and First Divisions and the F.A. Cup, but the feat for which he is best remembered is scoring 60 goals in one season.
His goalscoring record, set in 1927/28, has never been surpassed.
The Everton Collection is honouring the memory of Dixie Dean by telling his story in a new online exhibition.
