The minutes of 27 June 1892 note briefly that a decision was made to call the new ground Goodison Park. The ground was evidently named after a Leeds born civil engineer, George Goodison, who provided the Walton Local Board with a report in 1868. Mahon was later elected to this Board which managed health related services.
