To complete his honours Dean needed to win the F.A. Cup. In 1933 Everton made it to the final on 29 April. The match was the first in which players' shirts were officially numbered. Everton wore the numbers 1-11 and Dean became the first ever No. 9. Stein, Dean and Dunn scored the goals in Everton's 3-0 victory against Manchester City.
