On 13 May the Everton party travelled by steam train to Euston and on 14 May boarded the Royal Mail steamer, the Aruguaya, at Southampton. Unfortunately the Spurs team were delayed and missed the sailing. The team had to commandeer a tug to follow the steamer which slowed to allow them to board, presumably to much mickey-taking from the Everton players.
