On 28 April the tour was in doubt. Mr Bainbridge and Mr Wade said that the South American football officials were finding the tour more expensive to organise than they originally thought. Dramatically, the directors received a telegram during their meeting asking whether the Everton players would travel second class to save money. Without asking the players the directors agreed and the tour went ahead.
