Football boots, 1930s
Football boots worn by Duncan Ferguson, 1995

The boots that football players wear today are very different than they wore in the past. Football boots used to be very heavy and made out of wood and leather. They were made to protect the players’ ankles. Studs were nailed into the bottom of the boot.

Football boots are now much softer and lighter and, include man-made materials like rubber and plastic. They don’t give as much protection but players find them easier to play in. Football boots now come in lots of different colours and are promoted by famous players like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
