On 14 April 1890 Everton's secretary made a list of all the players' contracts for 1890-91 which had already been signed and stamped. These included Kirkwood's. His contract survives today and shows that he was paid £2.50 in the playing season and £2.00 in the summer. He did not get as much as stars like Fred Geary and Alex Latta who were paid £3.00 all year round.
