The first record of Daniel Kirkwood is in a minute book on 17 September 1889. Mr Brooks, a director, reported securing a player named Kirkwood on a scouting trip to Scotland. On Saturday, 21 September Kirkwood played his first match for Everton as a wing forward in the Reserves. By the next Saturday he had been promoted to the first team.
