The Everton Collection was recently used in a football reminiscence project to help those suffering from dementia.
Summerfields Care Home used the Collection to take their residents on a trip down memory lane. The Home's Activity Room was transformed into an Everton museum as pictures of old players and teams were displayed for everyone to see. Residents could also handle old boots, balls, shirts, shorts and rattles from the Collection.
Summerfield's Activities Co-ordinator, Gill Lloyd, commented,
"Most residents responded very well as the Collection can jog up memories from their childhood days and present days before they got ill. After the session many of the residents were talking non-stop football with one resident still talking about it the following day".
As Gill says, "This is great news and shows the Collection was a success with the residents recalling memories from their past and childhood".
More reminiscence sessions are being planned at Summerfields and it is hoped other elderly care homes will be using the Collection later this year.
