What happened in Everton's history this week?

1 November 1969 -
Tommy Wright scored the only goal against Nottingham Forest in front of 49,610 spectators to stretch Everton's lead at the top of the table. Everton had already posted 32 points out of a possible 36 so far in the season. Read the Forest match programme.

2 November 1895 - Alex Latta made his 148th and final appearance for the club in the 2-0 win over Wolves at Goodison Park. Born in Dumbarton in 1867 he began his career with Dumbarton and joined Everton in 1889, making his debut in the opening game of the 1889-90 season. During his time at Goodison he won a League championship medal and a runners-up medal. He left Everton in 1896 for Liverpool and upon his retirement from football joined a yacht-making company. 3 November 1984 - A 3-0 win over Leicester City at Goodison enabled Everton to take over at the top of the table for the first time in the campaign, with a run of 4 straight victories having taken them above Manchester United and Liverpool on their way. 4 November 1939 - Goodison Park staged the first representative match of the Second World War, with a Football League XI drawing 3-3 with an all-British side in front of a crowd of 15,000 who paid £1,244 to the Red Cross. 5 November 1990 - Howard Kendall returned to Everton as manager for the second time, joining them from Manchester City, and immediately appointed previous manager, Colin Harvey, as coach! Kendall was to spend three years at Everton the second time around and returned once again in 1997 for a further year. See all Howard Kendall memorabilia.

6 November 1943 - Tommy Lawton fired home 5 goals in the thrashing of local rivals Tranmere Rovers in the regional league, with Bentham adding 2 and McIntosh and Stevenson adding one each to the final 9-2 scoreline. Read the match programme.

7 November 1936 - Dixie Dean scored the 37th and final hat-trick of his career in the 4-2 win over West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park. Read the match programme.

7 November 1984 - Goals from Adrian Heath, Graeme Sharp and Kevin Sheedy enabled Everton to defeat Bratislava 3-0 in the European Cup-Winners' Cup 2nd Round, 2nd Leg match at Goodison Park for a 4-0 aggregate victory. Read the Bratislava match programme.
