5 April 1986-
Everton defeat Sheffield Wednesday, setting up an all-Merseyside Cup Final. Alan Harper and Graeme Sharp score against Sheffield Wednesday, helping Everton to a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup Semi-Final at Villa Park. At the final whistle came the news that Liverpool had also won their Semi-Final after defeating Southampton. 6 April 1928 - Dixie takes tally to 47 for the season. Everton defeat Blackburn Rovers 4-1, with Dean scoring 2 goals, while Hart and Martin scored the others. Click here to read the match programme.

7 April 1991 - Everton lose Zenith Data Systems Cup Final. Crystal Palace defeated Everton at Wembley, winning 4-1 after extra time. Everton's goal was scored by Robert Warzycha in front of a crowd of 52,460. Click here to read the Cup Final programme.

8 April 1949 - Joe Royle is born in Liverpool. Royle signed for Everton in August 1966 (although he made his debut in the previous season, aged only 16) and made 272 appearances for Everton before joining Manchester City in December 1974. In 1994 he returned to Goodison Park as manager and led them to the 1995 FA Cup Final victory. Royle left as manager in 1997. Click here to see all Joe Royle memorabilia.


9 April 1909 - Everton put 5 past Liverpool, recording their biggest win to date over their Merseyside rivals at Goodison Park.

9 April 1995 - Everton defeat Spurs in FA Cup Semi-Final at Elland Road. Everton took a 2 goal lead through Matt Jackson and Graham Stuart. A disputed penalty put Spurs back in the game, but 2 late strikes from Daniel Amokachi settled it for Everton, 4-1 and a trip to Wembley. Click here to read the Semi-Final programme.

10 April 1897 - Everton lose 3-2 to Aston Villa in the 1897 FA Cup Final. The match was one of the best Cup Finals ever seen, with all 5 goals coming in a 25 minute spell in the first half. Villa scored first through Campbell, but John Bell (man of the match) levelled soon after and then inspired Everton to take the lead through Richard Boyle. Villa responded with 2 goals before half-time and dominated much of the second half, holding on to win the cup to go with the League already secured. 10 April 1985 - Everton draw 0-0 with Bayern Munich in the 1st leg of the European Cup Winners' Cup Semi-Final.

11 April 1914 - Albert Geldard was born in Bradford. Geldard made his League debut at the age of 15 years and 156 days, becoming the youngest player to have played in a League match in peacetime. He joined Everton in 1932 and helped them win the 1933 FA Cup. He won four caps whilst at Goodison and was sold to Bolton in 1938 for £4,500. See all Albert Geldard memorabilia here.
