What happened in Everton's history this week?
8 March 1930 - Tommy Johnson makes his Everton debut in the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle. Johnson made 161 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals. Click here to see all Tommy Johnson memorabilia.
9 March 1985 - Harry Catterick sadly passes away shortly after the FA Cup 6th Round match against Ipswich Town. Catterick replaced Johnny Carey as manager in 1961. He previously played for Everton, making 59 League appearances before being transferred to Crewe Alexandra. On returning to Everton as manager he led the club to two League titles and an FA Cup victory. He suffered a heart attack in January 1972 and was moved to a more executive role at the club, paving the way for the return of Billy Bingham as manager. 10 March 1950 - Alan Whittle is born in Liverpool. Whittle made his Everton debut in 1968 and went on to make 86 appearances before being transferred to Crystal Palace in 1972 for £100,000. Click here to see all Alan Whittle memorabilia.
11 March 1905 - Everton defeat Sheffield Wednesday 5-2 with goals from Alex Young (two), Harry Makepeace, Jack Sharp and Jack Taylor. Earlier in the season the two sides drew 5-5 at Hillsborough. Read the full match programme here.
12 March 1977 - Everton draw 0-0 in the League Cup Final. Manager Gordon Lee, only in charge since January that year, led Everton out for their first League Cup Final and first appearance at Wembley since the 1968 FA Cup Final. 14 March 1891 - Everton lose 3-2 against Burnley in the final League match of the season. Everton played their previous League match on the 10th January, when they were presented with the League trophy after winning the Championship for the first time.
